Men’s Studies

In 2021, I developed this presentation as a complement to my research project in Men’s Studies, which formed part of my coursework in English Literature. The primary objective of this presentation is to provide the audience with an introductory overview of Men’s Studies: its definition, key concerns, historical development, and its broader landscape as a legitimate field of academic inquiry. The content of the presentation is substantially informed by the seminal works of prominent scholars in the field, including Michael Kimmel, Michael A. Messner, and Raewyn Connell, whose contributions have been foundational in shaping the discourse on masculinity and men’s roles in society.

In addition to the core material presented, I curated a comprehensive reading list for those interested in further exploring the subject. This list includes both primary and secondary sources, with the former comprising primarily works of fiction, and the latter focusing on critical and theoretical literature. By offering this reading list, I aim to guide scholars and students alike in deepening their understanding of the complexities and nuances of Men’s Studies, facilitating a more profound engagement with the topic from both literary and sociological perspectives.
